Retail Tips
Music Sets The Tone
When you walk into a place you are familiar with, you can easily spot inviting energy. If you are very social like I am it can be an issue. When I walk into the watering hole around the corner from my home I feel welcomed by the people at the pool table, the regulars at the bar and many times by other friends who aren’t regulars.

Now think about walking into a “local” place you have never been. In the United States the norm is that the “regulars” and locals will “give you the eye”. Two things can happen here. First your energy might change how they see you. Think about that salesman that can light up any room.
The other option is that you can give off an aura of uncertainty and no one will make you feel welcome. When you walk in with a group of friends, your focus tends to remain with them and not on the others already there. This alone creates a different experience.
Think about how many times you had one opinion of a restaurant and your friends had another. It might not have anything to do with the food or service, it might all be how you perceived the place based on the energy inside before you got there or the energy of the friends you brought with you.
The best retailers and restaurants use background music to set a tone for the entire place. That music and tone bias the energy a certain way. Since men and women perceive sound differently, the music can change your customer base.
