Everyone knows that TurboTax is the most popular tax software, and after once again trying to use an accountant who didn’t impress me, we hired a tax attorney and decided to return to TurboTax.
Shopping for TurboTax Wasn’t that easy. You would think that, like the airlines, the best TurboTax deals would be on the intuit website. Before I clicked buy, I did some shopping.
First I started on Costco.com. That is always my benchmark. These days though Costco doesn’t always have the best price. For instance I found a Canon Camera kit from a reputable dealer that had all the same pieces as the Costco kit except a 32GB memory card for $300 less than Costco.
Best Buy, after it’s near fatal financial situation appears to have recovered and routinely beats Costco pricing on TV’s. Show them your Costco card and they’ll match the warranty too.
So how did Costco do with TurboTax?
First lets look at four screen shots when I started looking at the intuit website.

Notice all the different prices on the Intuit website! How are you supposed to know which version to pick? To make it more fun I attempted to check out on each version and declined the additional offers. Each time the price for Premier came out to $89.99 plus tax and shipping. It didn’t matter which one I picked. I was all in for the $9.99 deal, and then read the fine print. There were so many potential add ons I couldn’t figure out what I would pay. Either way no matter which I clicked at the end it was $89.99
Before I clicked buy on Costco.com I checked out Amazon, my next favorite place to shop and found the same price as Costco for the all inclusive version of TurboTax Premier. I don’t want add ons at tax time, I want to know I have what I need to get the job done. Costco.com or Amazon appear to be the best deals right now. If you find something better please share it.
