The Long Beach Grand Prix, April 16-18 2010

For the last 36 years, Long Beach has shut down and hosted the most popular street race in the United States. In 1977 Chris Pook put together the first races that grew into the Long Beach Grand Prix. The first Formula One winner was Mario Andretti, and the first CART winner in 1983 was also Mario Andretti.

The Long Beach Grand Prix has been a predominantly American with Al Unser Jr being a six time winner. The world flavor is evident though with past winners from Italy, Brazil and Canada. The Long Beach Grand Prix has become an international event. Even if you aren’t in to auto racing, the tour of Long Beach is a spectacle that every one should experience at least once this year.

I’ll be hanging out with my friends from TruSpeed racing this year. TruSpeed is going to be running three Porsche GT series race cars in the SCCA Pro World Challenge Series.   Find me and I’ll give you a free temporary tattoos.

The Long Beach Grand Prix was the host to the final Champ car race and this year will feature Indy Racing League (IRL) as the headliners. The list of other events will provide for some great entertainment. Everything from drifting demonstrations to celebrity races will be running all weekend. There is a lifestyle expo for those who aren’t into the smell of burning racing fuel, tires and clutches.

Saturday Night, Cheap Trick will be taking the stage for The Tecate Light Rock-n-Roar concert presented by KLOS Los Angeles. How can you go wrong with a weekend of auto racing, lifestyle expo and a Cheap Trick Concert.
