Masters Of Surf Art – until 8/24/19

Surf Art at Surf City, who would have guessed it? The Huntington Beach Art Center is hosting the Masters Of Surf Art Exhibit until August 24, 2019. If you like surfing, and surf art you don’t want to miss this exhibition. By far a Beach Street favorite. Following on the success of the “Dress to Inspire” fundraiser, the one of a kind exhibit brings something fun, new and locally inspired to the Art Center.

The Art Center says “Rietveld & Roberts: Masters of Surf Art, a retrospective of two of the most influential artists in surf art in Southern California. Rick Rietveld is known for his pop surrealism, while Phil Roberts is recognized as a modern day da Vinci. From paintings and sculptures to movie illustrations and surfboards, the exhibit will feature a variety of works, including prized surfboards created for Surfboards on Parade, a Rotary Club of Huntington Beach participatory art experience. “

The exhibition includes art that is on loan from private collectors across the country. Something you will likely never be able to see again. In addition to one of the highest priced surfboards ever painted there is an amazing homage to Eddie Aikau.

For you landlocked surf fans, there is an entire wall showing the first concepts of man made wave pools. Some as many as 30 years old, showing the bridge of the surf and tiki cultures.

The Masters of Surf Art win a Best of the Beach Award for the Art Center. On August 8th, the Art Center hosted “Art for Lunch” which included an introduction to the displays by the two artists as well as a Q&A.

On August 15th at the Art Center there will be a free screening of the movie that started it all, Endless Summer. Check with the Art Center to insure space will be available. Until then don’t miss the Masters of Surf Art at the Huntington Beach Art Center and soak up a little aloha while you are there.
