Land Rover Evoque Debuts in Newport Beach

Tonight there was a great reception for the latest member of the Land Rover Family at Land Rover of Newport Beach.  The Range Rover Evoque was present in three forms, the Pure, Prestige and Dynamic.  All of them nothing you would ever expect from Range Rover.  Instead of big beasty vehicles gracing the Valet lanes with the well healed the Evoque is everything right that Ford left behind when it sold Land Rover.

The introduction at Newport Beach Land Rover was quite fitting with a DJ and three gourmet food trucks.  The entire event matched the attidude that you felt as soon as you sat in the new Evoque.  GM Scott Paul tells us these three are leaving on Saturday night, but more should arrive in the next couple of months if you missed them.

Still based on a Ford power train, the Land Rover Evoque boasts a highway EPA estimated MPG in the mid 20’s.  That alone caught my interest before I even could see the car or sport ute or whatever you want to call it.  The Evoque is clearly the rebel child of the Land Rover family with attidute starting at the LED headlights that continues all the way to the power lift gate in the back.

As your eyes pass the front grill with just a hint of Range Rover Sport you quickly see this car is different.  The green house windows are gone and new sleek side glass gives the Evoque a look not seen in Britain until now.  With a little attitude of a chopped roof you would expect from Chip Foose or Jesse James, the Evoque has style and attidude to spare.

For the base model the interior quality still screamed Land Rover so as not to let down anyone who must downsize with the economy.  You will still be driving a real Land Rover.  With the panaroamic moon roof, the desire to take a drive to the redwoods is hard to ignore.  And, just in case you are worried about the kids, there is an optional entertainment system with wireless controllers and dual flat panel displays in the head rests.

The touch sensor gear selector is just one more unexpected technology enhancement for the Evoque.  LED mood lighting interior, blue tooth, USB and iPod ports and a great front end information screen round out the technology package nicely.

If you are looking for a great looking car that is quite different that anything you have seen and gets great mileage out of its 2.0 liter turbo charged engine, the Evoque is worth a look.
