During the holidays food becomes the center of attention. It is even to the point that affects how homes are designed and built. Kitchens now have sit down breakfast bars and open to family rooms and breakfast room so that everybody can be together while the food is being prepared.
Food and entertainment go hand-in-hand especially this time of year. We all know that any time during the year you can go to a hibachi bar and sit while the chef entertains you as he prepares your food. The onion volcano will put a smile on anyone’s face.
Only during the holiday season does food become so central to family and friends. The kitchens of American come alive with cakes, pies and cookies. Children sit wide eyed waiting to see what magic comes from the oven. Rarely is the entertainment of food a learning experience though. I mean how often you get out of the house to have your children entertained by the science of gingerbread?
From now until January 2, 2011, the discovery science Center is hosting the science of gingerbread. As part of this discovery science Center’s annual holiday Festival you can learn everything you ever wanted to know about gingerbread. The center is including hands-on activities including mixing gingerbread, decorating cookies and learning how to build houses and even model trains out of gingerbread. To top off the event there are gingerbread competitions with award and visits from Santa himself.
How great is it that the Discovery Science Center let your children mess up their kitchen and not yours while putting together one of the season’s favorite treats?
