Truckee River Flooding

Near record snows in the Sierras mean big water movement as the snow melts. The normally placid float down the Truckee River in the Sierra Nevada Mountains is now a white water rafting dream. With over 11,000 gallons per second starting the river at the mouth of Lake Tahoe and little streams and tributaries adding more along the way, the river is overflowing in many areas.

The River Ranch in at the Alpine Meadows turn off pictured here is closed for now. Reports are that they had water on the back patio right up to the door on Thursday. Estimates are that rapidly rising temperatures and possible rain could rain the Truckee river another foot over the weekend.  The potential for rain over the weekend means more areas could see the river coming over the edge.
